Background

The income sources and usage of the BendDAO protocol were introduced in Idea.

Since the launch of the BendDAO protocol, all protocol income has been distributed to veBEND holders. With the adjustment of protocol income entering the treasury, it will affect the earnings of veBEND holders in the short term. In the long run, only by ensuring the continuity and stability of the protocol can veBEND holders maximize their earnings.

Summary

The income of the BendDAO protocol should prioritize the following expenses of the treasury:

  • Annual budget expenditures
  • Bad debt reserve

When the annual budget funds are insufficient, it is recommended to use 90% of the protocol income to replenish the treasury.

When the bad debt reserve is insufficient, it is recommended to use 50% of the protocol income to replenish the treasury (maintaining the proposal in BIP#38 unchanged).

When the treasury funds are sufficient to cover the above two expenses, 10% of the protocol income enters the treasury, and 90% is distributed to veBEND holders.

Implementation

Based on the budget from September 2023 to December 2023, we can roughly calculate the annual budget to be approximately $400k stablecoins or equivalent assets.

When the available funds (USDT/USDC/ETH) in the treasury are less than $400k, 90% of the protocol income enters the treasury.

When the available funds in the treasury exceed $400k, 50% of the protocol income enters the treasury to replenish the bad debt reserve.

When the bad debt reserve reaches the specified limit, 10% of the protocol income enters the treasury.

This proposal didn’t pass in last vote on snapshot:
https://snapshot.org/#/benddao.eth/proposal/0xa09a2ba646300eb532da8ad4ffeb4a1e29bed4709bcda64f6ce912cde6ffb782

But I would like to suggest this vote can be voted again after 30 days, because:

  1. The DAO treasury is not enough to next year v2 auditing & dev team salary & marketing & operation cost, wish that DAO execution commette can make the cost transparency for the community.
  2. The revenue distribution will make BendDAO project risk of been defined to security by US gov, which is not good for this bull market money to buy $Bend token from institution.
  3. The VeToken still works without revenue distribution, the longer the holder want to keep with the protocol, the more voting power they should have.

So I would like to suggest to make all the revenue go to DAO treasury first, if the community want to have revenue distribution in the future, we can have another proposal.

We need to raise more money if the money is not enough in our DAO treasury, if you are a investor, will you give money to a org(either DAO or company) that don’t have enough cash flow but keep doing a revenue sharing?

It was a mistake to share all the revenue to the veBend, we need money for bad debts and new version of protocol development, time to end this mistake and fix the problem ASAP, everyone/team can make mistake, the thing that only matters is we know it is a mistake and do the right thing and learn from it to earn the future.

Distributing the revenue actually cuts into the value of the protocol, and I would suggest adding veBEND to the usage scenarios, for example:
Auction eligibility
Lending interest
